Sound harvesting
Another key creative technique that formed part of the project was the capturing of field recordings on site. The idea was to give people a chance to experience sounds that are sometimes there in the environment, but not always. Accordingly, Anna Braithwaite spent a cold, bright day on site with s binaural mic to capture sounds: harvested the sounds of the barges, the river, the people, the church bells and the wind…
The experiment in sound harvesting was made possible by Electric Medway who lent the team the use of this equipment. You can experience the field recordings throughout the soundwalk, especially along the foreshore and on Glassbottle Beach. They add a depth and texture to the experience.
And what happened to the sounds? They made it into the Hulked Soundwalk, adding texture to the aural landscape.
